The human Activin A recombinant protein consists of a non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 137 amino acids (311-426aa).

Activin A, a member of the transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) superfamily, regulates immune and inflammatory responses, cell death, and has a neurotrophic function crucial for brain repair. Produced by many cell types, Activin A is a disulfide-linked homodimer that binds to type I and type II serine-threonine kinase receptors, primarily signaling through SMAD2/3 proteins. This signaling regulates cell proliferation, differentiation, wound healing, apoptosis, and metabolism. Activin A plays a critical role in neuroprotection and adult neurogenesis, particularly following brain damage, by regulating spine formation and promoting neurogenesis.
